Fabric Designs

Texas flair

This project began as a study of textile design and the challenges of creating artwork for large-format fabric printing. It also provided a great excuse to experiment with some of Illustrator's newer features and see how they could support a pattern-driven workflow.

The finished Texas pattern printed on cloth, a diagonal lattice of longhorns, missions, guitars, and horseshoes in red, orange, and brown.
The longhorn pattern shown on finished goods: a pillow, table runner, bedding, and napkins.
Macro detail of the printed cloth, a guitar and armadillo motif filling the frame, the weave visible through the ink.
Macro detail of a cowboy boot motif stamped EST. TX 1845, raking light catching the texture of the fabric.
The pattern across a loose length of cloth, its diagonal lattice of longhorns, missions, horseshoes, and boots repeating edge to edge.
